Osimhen Will Soon Overtake Awoniyi Says Players’ Team Mate


FIFA U-17 world cup Chile 2015 winning defender, John Lazarus of Nigeria believes that 2015 U-17 goal king Victor Osimhen in times to come will be a better striker than FSV Frankfurt of Germany forward Taiwo Awoniyi
Lazarus who has played alongside both players in the past in an exclusive chat with our man Bunmi Blair thinks both strikers play the same style of football but admits that Awoniyi is a more experienced player for now.

“ I wouldn’t say Osimhen is better than Awoniyi, because they play the same style of football, but the only thing is this, Awoniyi has more experience more than Osimhen for now but in times to come, I have the believe that Victor will be the best.”

Awoniyi and Osimhen both helped Nigeria win the FIFA U-17 world cup in 2013 and 2015 respectively and will fight for shirts in coach Samson Siasia’s led squad to the CAF U-23 championship which kicks off  in Senegal this weekend.

AFCON 2019: Amunike leads, will Rohr follow?

Former African of footballer of the year, Emmanuel Amunike, who is now the head coach of the Taifa Stars of Tanzania, recently named Under-17 striker, Kelvin John in his provisional squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. Kelvin caught the eyes of major clubs around the world with his all-round performance for the Serengeti Boys at the just concluded CAF Under-17 Cup of Nations and he is said to be on his way to Old Trafford. Super Eagles of Nigeria's head coach, Gernot Rohr also made similar promise when he visited the Nigeria Under-17 team before the CAF Under-17 Cup of Nations in April.   It is also on record that Rohr made and fulfilled similar commitment to the Nigeria Under-20 team, the Flying Eagles when he eventually invited Valentine Ozornwafor for the Super Eagles' games against Egypt and Seychelles in March.
